YE lab

Proteostasis in Cell Stress
at Imperial College London

Research Vision

The Ye lab studies protein degradation and proteostasis — the cellular systems that maintain protein quality control — and how their breakdown drives the aggregation of misfolded proteins implicated in neurodegenerative disorders and dementia. Combining state-of-the-art fluorescence microscopy with a range of complementary techniques, we investigate how the proteasome system responds to protein aggregation and cell stress in cellular models of disease, and how its failure allows disease to progress. Our goal is to identify points where this process can be therapeutically reversed.
